Saturday Sept 5

The main tour group arrived this morning, picked us up from the hotel and off we went on a tour of Istanbul. Today it was a cruise along the Bosphorus, the strait between the two sides of Istanbul.

Istanbul is the only city in the world situated on two continents. The eastern side is Asia and the western is Europe. Bridges cross the Bosphorus in two places to join.

Houses on th shore of the Bosphorus

The shores are lined with houses, both ancient and modern, but all extremely expensive. Our tour guide said houses range in price from 5 million USD to 50 million! We weren't tempted!the two halves of the city.

Suleiman Mosque
There are around 2000 mosques in Istanbul and we saw several of them today.

Spice Market Istanbul
We also visited the spice market - saw not just spice but nuts, fruit, olives, fish, and of course the ubiquitous Turkish Delight, Halva and Baklava stalls. The walnuts, dates and olives were huge - and delicious.

Here are also some photos of the Grand Bazaar.
