Wednesday June 12th

Today we drove around teh Ring of Kerry - very slowly. At the end of the Peninsular there's the added Kellig Ring that took us to the point where we could look out to the Kellig Islands. A bit further along we walked up a steep cliff to see the Cliffs of Kerry, a beautiful outcrop of stratified Rocks. Then down the hill to Portmagee where we signed up for a boat trip around the Skelligs. The trip out was reasonably smooth with a light swell swingingthe boat from left to right on occasion. The tewo main Islandsare Sj=kellig Michael and Little Skellig. Little Skellig is the home for 70,000 Gannets. On Skellig Michael is an ancient Monastery with Beehive houses that the monks once lived in. This can be visited and the 600 odd steps climbed to see where the monks lived, but numbers are limited so we couldn't go there even if we'd thought we could make the climb.
On our way back we decided to take a short cut across the peninsular. Again we followed our Navlady along narrow winding roads for about an hour as we cut through the mountain range to get back to our B&B. We didn't have a clue where we were but we got back to the exact point we were aiming for.

Not Hobbiton, just the landscape on the Skellig Ring
