Wednesday June19

Close to Clifden is the only undersea road in Ireland. It connects the mainland to Omey Ireland but can only be crossed at low tide. The sand is quite firm so cars can drive over it easily enough, but we walked. We've done enough driving! On the way we called in to an old Franciscan monastery at Roundstone that is now the home for a potter, a jeweller and a maker of musical instruments particularly the bodhran, the Irish hand held drum. We had a demonstration of the latter with a number of beautiful instruments but I decided I'd stick with the guitar.
