Weissenkirchen is a small village named after its church, though only the original spire is white. The village is surrounded by terraced vineyards which produce top quality Gruner Veltliner and Riesling white wines. We were taken on a walking tour of the village ending with a wine tasting at a winery in the village.

A piece of artwork "The Eye" which opens to another sculpture called "The Nose" which can be seen through the eye hole.
After lunch we continued down the Danube past a series of medieval castles, some dating back to the 12th century, as well as lovely small Austrian villages.

Melk Abbey, one of the largest in Europe
and still operating as an abbey.
