June 6 Wurzburg

We’re in Wurzburg but took a bus ride to Eibelstadt a small town about 12km away. The town is surrounded by vineyards so of course a wine tasting was on the menu following a short walk around the town. The town is surrounded by a wall with towers at four corners, one of which holds town archives dating back to the 9th century.

This tower was at one time used for emergency housing for homeless or ill people - but they had a rule that you could only stay one night, because they didn’t want someone to die and then have to pay for their funeral!

Gate through the city wall - showing flood levels in various years.

St Nicklaus Church

Vintage car rally that happened to be there on their way from England

Sculpture commemorating a 1725 scam where some stonemasons convinced a local doctor that they’d discovered a group of fossils and sold him 100s of what were in fact fakes.

The three delicious local wines that we tried. The wines from this village are all consumed in the area, none are sent elsewhere!
