Just a morning in Cologne as we need30 hours to get to Amsterdam. So we walk though the city to Cologne Cathedral, one of the few parts of the city not to be destroyed by Allied Bombers during the war, seeing various sights on the way.
Cologne Cathedral
Great St Martin’s Church and the original toll Gate tower
Fish Wives Fountain in the old Fish Market and three house built on narrow blocks to save on taxes
City Hall and Jan.von Werth Fountain
Magic Helpers Fountain - based on fairy tale of elves who secretly helped with chores until a housewife caught them and the elves, being embarrassed to be found lest Cologne forever.
Part of a Roman road discovered during excavations and placed next to
the cathedral and the Roman-German Museum.
Inside the Cathedral
The local beer is called Kölsch, a light white beer, so we had to try it.
I prefer the Riesling from further up the river.
